Murray's Toggery History • Nantucket RedsTM History
Murray’s Toggery Shop has woven itself into the very tradition and fabric of the Faraway Island with aline of clothing known the world over as Nantucket Reds . It all began when the store started selling distinctively brick-red sailcloth slacks in the 1940s. The pants became so popular, Philip C. Murray named and trademarked them."Nantucket Reds ." He arranged to have the cotton canvas material dyed and put together by a Georgia manufacturer to customized specifications. The unique fabric fades with each wash and customers have been known to take all sorts of measures to attain the faded pink immediately.

Today, the Murray's Toggery Nantucket Reds line features pants, Bermudas, shirts, overalls, skirts, sweatshirts, and hats. Clearly, owning and wearing any Nantucket Reds product has become a status symbol for people worldwide. But perhaps the nicest thing about Nantucket Reds is that they are comfortable and sturdy—with an unpretentious, understated style that can be worn anytime, anywhere. No question about it: Murray's Toggery and Nantucket Reds are an established tradition.
