We have some exciting news here at Murray’s Toggery Shop, home of the original Nantucket Reds Collection! We started a major renovation this winter to transform our Ladies' and Children's department. While it’s true that nowadays people like to shop online, it doesn’t mean that brick-and-mortar stores are completely out-of-style. We still get a high volume of customers, not only in the summer, but also in the off-season, and we decided that this is a perfect year to give our customers better in-store shopping experience, as we celebrate our 75th anniversary!
Murray’s Toggery Shop story began in 1945. The store was bought by Philip Murray, but it was his son, Philip C. Murray, who expanded the business. He returned from Virginia in the early ’50s to take over the business. In 1963, he purchased the Louis Coffin Dry Goods store and turned it into what is now the women’s department. During the ’60s, for the first time, he introduced famous Nantucket Reds pants to the world. The popularity of the pants has grown so much by the ’80s, that he had to trademark the line, especially after The Official Preppy Handbook...
We are pretty sure if the loved ones in your life were to give you an honest answer to what they want for the holidays, the answer would be ‘Spend summers on Nantucket for the rest of my life.’ And since we are assuming most of you can’t keep that promise, you won’t disappoint them with a smaller, well-thought-out Christmas gift that comes from Nantucket, right under their Christmas Tree.
Ah, jeans, the staple wear! The dream of creating a hundred different looks with a single pair of pants is entirely possible with jeans. Jeans are pants made from denim, and they were invented by Jacob Davis and Levi Strauss in 1873. They were first worn by workers because of its high durability, and later they became a fashion item. Now, many offices allow denim in the workspace!
